Vulvar Fissures
Vulvar fissures are more or less deep cracks that occur in the semi-mucosa or skin of the vulvar area.
The main symptom is pain. It can occur spontaneously or from the mere friction of the fissure during sexual intercourse. The intensity of the pain will depend on the depth of the crack and the resulting inflammation.
Why do they occur?
In women of fertile age, the most common cause is chronic vulvovaginal infection.
During the climacteric period, the main cause is vulvovaginal atrophy.
Another common cause occurs in patients with lichen sclerosus (LS).
How do they affect sexual life?
Friction in this area during intercourse can lead to avoidance of sexual relations.
Chronic fissures can reopen during sexual intercourse, causing mild to moderate bleeding.
Treatment:
The goal of treatment is to rejuvenate the tissues, making them less prone to rupture and restoring elasticity and hydration.
This can be achieved by:
Correcting hygiene habits.
Eliminating factors that contribute to fissure formation.
Hydrating the skin of the vulva and vagina.
For hydration, the following methods can be used:
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP): Bioregeneration is achieved through biological stimulation by the growth factors present in the platelets.
Hyaluronic acid: This polysaccharide has the advantage of being a hydrophilic agent that traps intracellular water.
Laser: This technology stimulates tissue regeneration in the damaged area and the surrounding tissue, rejuvenating the tissues and making them less prone to rupture.
